Faceted Simulated Alexandrite
Simulated alexandrite is laboratory-grown corundum created by the flame fusion method. As with natural alexandrite, the color of these stones changes when viewed from different angles and under different light sources. Because of this characteristic, simulated alexandrite cannot be accurately shown by still photography; the intense light distorts the color. The photograph at left has been computer-enhanced to approximate the color of these stones under natural light.
Treatment: Imitation (IMIT)
Color: Strong color changes range from bluish-green to bluish-purple to purplish-red. Some stones show more blue; some show more red.
