Rio Rewards PMC® Certification July 14-16 Instructor: Terry Kovalcik • Class #: 01 • Availability: FULL • Fee: $425 This three-day intensive workshop is designed to teach students advanced skills and techniques for working with PMC®. Senior instructors evaluate students’ work on seven PMC projects and award certification based on a uniform standard. Fun and challenging, certification is demanding and for the serious artist who seeks accreditation in PMC. Classes are small, offering opportunities for one-on-one instruction. By attending the class, students become enrolled in Rio Rewards, a special purchasing program through which members receive discounts on PMC and PMC-related products. Students who complete the class will receive a one-year membership in the PMC Guild. Level: Flexshaft Finishes For PMC® July 14 Instructor: Mark Nelson • Class #: 02 • Availability: FULL • Fee: $185 This one-day hands-on class demonstrates several finishes that can be added to fired PMC® using a flex shaft. Finishes include high polish, several types of matte or satin finishes, and several types of textures. Students will have the opportunity to operate the flexshaft and produce finished samples. Safety issues, flex shaft operation and accessory options will also be covered. Level: Stone Setting PMC®: Explore the Possibilities! July 14-15 Instructor: Jeanette Landenwitch • Class #: 03 • Availability: FULL • Fee: $325 This two-day class is not your average stone-setting class! Learn multiple ways to set, using ready-made settings as well as settings you’ll create from PMC®. You’ll learn both non-solder and solder techniques, and you’ll see how many styles can be created . . . some rarely seen in PMC designs. Expand your repertoire! Faceted, cabochon, calibrated, non-calibrated . . . there isn’t a stone we can’t set. See you there. Level: Granulation on PMC® July 14 Instructor: Yvonne M. Padilla • Class #: 07 • Availability: OPEN • Fee: $195 In this exciting one-day class, learn how to combine the ancient art of granulation with Precious Metal Clay®! Create fine silver granules using a basic butane torch. We will also focus on methods for layout and design. Level: Granulation on PMC® July 16 Instructor: Yvonne M. Padilla • Class #: 08 • Availability: FULL • Fee: $195 In this exciting one-day class, learn how to combine the ancient art of granulation with Precious Metal Clay®! Level: Low Tech Glass & PMC® July 14-15 Instructor: Chris Darway • Class #: 09 • Availability: OPEN • Fee: $315 Glass and PMC® products are made for each other. So why not experience new techniques and take home samples for future inspiration? Over two days, we will work with low-tech float glass (window-pane glass) using PMC+® sheet and PMC3® slip to produce sophisticated designs, textures and objects. Expect to have 6-8 samples. Level: Water Etching for the PMC® Artist July 15-16 Instructor: CeCe Wire • Class #: 10 • Availability: CANCELLED • Fee: $325 Use water etching as a surface decoration to acquire beautifully subtle designs that can be enhanced by finishing techniques. In this two-day class, learn to apply resist material to maintain areas of your design while using a damp sponge to wipe away successive layers of clay, thus “etching” away the background. CeCe will review the many types of resist available and help you determine the best technique for the class pieces. CeCe will also cover finishing options; you will select colored pencils, surface finish or liver of sulfur patina for your piece. Level: Fused Sterling and PMC® Bracelet Cuff July 15 Instructor: Tonya Davidson • Class #: 11 • Availability: FULL • Fee: $225 During this exciting one-day class, learn to use the efficiency and strength of sheet sterling to create a bracelet cuff and then add PMC® to customize the design and produce texture—all without a torch or solder! You’ll learn how to cut, shape and prepare sheet for fusing with PMC. We’ll then add PMC sculpted designs and texture to the surface and fuse them together in the kiln. Advanced techniques will be discussed and no secret spared. Learn to use a flex shaft to drill and polish. We’ll also explore ways to add stones using settings, bezels, decorative wire and more! Level: Porcupine Bead Workshop July 15-16 Instructor: Barbara Becker Simon • Class #: 12 • Availability: FULL • Fee: $325 During this insightful two-day class, you will learn to make a complex bead using PMC3®, texture plates and polymer clay molds. See how to implant sterling wire to create pins for setting half-drilled pearls and discover what texture plates are and how they can be created. The class also covers additional ways to incorporate polymer clay molds into your work. Level: Basic Soldering July 16 Instructor: Thackeray Taylor • Class #: 13 • Availability: FULL • Fee: $225 Acquire the skills to solder professionally on jewelry. In this one-day class, you'll create a bracelet, a pair of CZ-set earrings, and a PMC® pendant with bail while learning to use a Smith® Little Torch™ propane and oxygen system. Torch set-up, safety and soldering techniques for a variety of materials will be taught. Level: Titanium Bracelet with PMC® Prong-Set CZ July 16 Instructor: Chris Darway • Class #: 14 • Availability: FULL • Fee: $175 Leave this one-day class with a sophisticated titanium bracelet featuring a prong-set 5-6mm CZ stone. Techniques taught include: compression forming, dry working, hand drills, filing and stone-setting with burs. Explore texturing, working with molds, appliqué, gem setting, and hollow form construction. BronzClay™ remains truly flexible when dry, allowing for a wide range of forming and sculpting techniques. This quality also lends itself to beautiful, smooth carving. Firing and finishing and patinas will be demonstrated and discussed.
